One of our clients, a leading global business within the manufacturing field, is currently recruiting a Purchasing Manager for one of its business units.
Poste
This position is responsible for the overall purchasing strategy for one of the company's business units in Europe and for the people management of the teams carrying out this work.
The scope includes purchasing activities for close to a dozen locations in more than six countries. Over 10 procurement managers and senior buyers report into this role, with up to 10 indirect reports (site buyers and purchasing professionals).
Main accountabilities
The role focuses on the following (but not exclusively):
- Directs work across his/her organisation in alignment with global, regional and BU-specific procurement targets;
- Has overall budget responsibility for his/her organisation;
- Is ultimately responsible for all people matters within his/her organisation;
- Represents Procurement to the different stakeholders and peer groups (e.g. liaising with stakeholders and BU leadership teams).
- Ensures overall compliance to global/regional strategies, contracts, processes, and policies within his/her own group.
Main challenges
The key challenges are (i) in people management, (ii) in understanding the diverse BU's and driving procurement strategies and practices that deliver clear value to them.
Profil
Education
- Bachelor's Degree (Business, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain Management) is a must.
- Advanced degree is preferred but not a must.
- Professional certifications in purchasing at a national or international level (CPM, APICS, CIPS, NEVA, MAI, ..) preferred but not a must.
Languages
- Fluency in English is critical.
- Fluency in either French or German or Spanish or Italian.
- Third language would be a plus
Critical leadership skills
- People management - identifying talent and developing it; coaching the next level of team leaders and succession planning; managing teams remotely
- Project management.
- Strong communication skills - across multiple levels of a matrix organisation; different cultures and languages; able to adapt one's style with internal customers, suppliers and one's own team.
- Change management - track record in changing attitudes about a process or system and successful implementation.
Critical professional skills
- Strategic sourcing processes.
- Supply chain management experience from within either the automotive, aerospace or construction businesses.
- Strong financial analysis skills developed through a role in either finance or purchasing
Other
- Experience with the implementation of Oracle or another ERP system.
- e-Sourcing experience (e.g. has pushed the appropriate usage within his/her team and used it him/herself).
